I went to see John Carpenter in London last night. Quite a strange night watching a 70 odd year old film maker perform his soundtracks and stuff from his 2 solo albums. I was surprised at how good it was and at how much it rocked. He had me from the start as the first song was Escape From New York and then he went straight into Assault On Precinct 13.
I kept on thinking, ‘this sounds very John Carpenter!’ That’s testament to how much he’s influenced electronic music and his sound has been copied. He’s a brilliant musician and composer and some of his chords are from hell. Special thank you to my mate Pete who surprised me with a ticket for this as I would never have gone otherwise. It was a special and strange night. “You gonna kill me now Snake?”
“Maybe later, I’m tired right now”
