Secret 7″ is an exciting project combining music and art in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust. Seven bands and recording artists (DJ Shadow, Florence + The Machine, The Cure, Ben Howard, CSS, Noah and The Whale and Bombay Bicycle Club) are inviting creatives to design the artwork for a seven inch vinyl sleeve inspired by one of their songs. The project will culminate in 700 unique vinyl sleeves displayed in Idea Generation Gallery in London in the week leading up to Record Store Day 2012. On that day, each of the vinyls at the gallery will be available to purchase with all of the profits going to Teenage Cancer Trust.

I’ve just written an album on a Tascam 8 Track using only analogue instruments. This album is supposed to be my answer to Bruce Springsteens Nebraska, simple, stripped down and stark. I’m doing an experiment whereby you can name the price you want to pay for the digital download only. It’s free if you want!

My Biker Friend

For 10 months my friend lay in a coma.
We didn’t know whether to switch him off
After his terrible motorcycle trauma.

Finally, and after a while,
He came back to life,
But sadly only with cabbage on his mind.

He used to make us laugh
But now just makes us cry.
He just lies there on his back
And stares out of one useless eye.

It’s been 10 months since my friend came out of his coma.

He doesn’t ever say a word
And he looks really bored.

But the saddest thing of all
Is that we don’t go to see him anymore.

The fires flames reach up to the night
Parent’s prams push through the mud
A thousand boots march up to the front
To see and hear the whiz bangs bang and crunch
Remember remember the familiar smells
Of toffee apples and baked potatoes
And passing wind in children’s faces
The colours the flash the bang and the light
No death no fear just fun tonight
Our history is fun and a time to remember
How we all love this night in November
But Granddad tonight is staying at home
And drinking his whiskey again till the end
As he remembers the bangs of now and of then
And the mud on the boots of his absent friends
